Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 2025

Harbor is an open-source browser extension. This Privacy Policy explains what information Harbor collects (and what it doesn't), how that information is used, and your rights as a user.

The short version: Harbor is designed to keep your data local. We don't run servers that collect your browsing history, track your activity, or sell your information to anyone.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information the extension processes locally

Harbor reads page content, your typed instructions, and browser state to carry out your requested tasks. This information is processed on your device and within the extension's context. It is not sent to Harbor servers, because Harbor doesn't operate any servers that collect this data.

1.2 API requests

To process your requests, Harbor may send data (including page content and your instructions) to a third-party AI service (e.g., an LLM provider). This is necessary for the AI functionality to work. The specific provider depends on your configuration. Please review the privacy policy of any AI provider you configure Harbor to use.

If you use your own API key, your requests are governed by your agreement with that provider, not by this policy.

1.3 Information we do not collect

  • We do not collect or store your browsing history.
  • We do not track which websites you visit.
  • We do not collect personal information such as your name, email, or IP address through the extension.
  • We do not run analytics or tracking scripts within the extension.
  • We do not sell any data to third parties.

1.4 This website

The Harbor website (harborextension.com or similar) may use standard web hosting and CDN services that log basic access information (IP addresses, request times). This information is used solely for infrastructure purposes and is not linked to individual user profiles. No advertising trackers or behavioral analytics are used on this website.

2. How Information Is Used

Information processed locally by the extension is used solely to carry out the tasks you request. It is not used for profiling, advertising, or any other purpose.

Information sent to third-party AI providers is used to generate responses to your requests. See the relevant provider's privacy policy for how they handle this data.

3. Data Storage

Harbor may store certain preferences and settings locally in your browser using the standard browser extension storage APIs. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to any server operated by Harbor.

You can clear this data at any time by removing the extension from your browser or clearing its stored data through your browser's extension settings.

4. Third-Party Services

Harbor may integrate with third-party AI APIs. By using Harbor, you acknowledge that certain data (page content, instructions) may be transmitted to those services as part of normal operation. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services involved:

5. Children's Privacy

Harbor is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13.

6. Open Source

Harbor is open source. You can review exactly what the extension does by reading the source code on GitHub. This transparency is intentional — we believe you should be able to verify what software on your device is doing.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Harbor develops. When we do, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we'll note them in the GitHub repository.

Continued use of Harbor after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

8. Contact

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or how Harbor handles data, you can reach us through the Contact page or open an issue on GitHub.
